Sibi Yam Farmers cry over lack of buyers

Sibi Yam Farmers cry over lack of buyers. Yam Farmers at Sibi, a suburb of Kpasa in the Nkwanta North District of Oti Region are crying for buyers as this year’s season improved after ‘Fulani menace’ has ceased.

According to them, although the yam business is the main sources of occupation, ‘Fulani menace’ over the past years has caused them so many losses but the timely intervention by the District Chief Executive Hon. William Nawugma has saved them.

The market Chairman for the farmers at Sibi Mr. Makija Linga speaking to Peace/Hello/Beyond Fm Reporter Kwabena Ntow, expressed satisfaction over yam production this year, adding that since the farming system has positively improved, farmers have the capability and the willingness to go to their farms without fear of being attacked by Fulanis.

Over the years, Nkwanta North District has recorded attacks by some herdsmen which include; rapes and kidnapping a situation which prevents farmers from freely going to their farms.

Mr Linga however appealed to the general public especially traders to troop to Sibi for yam business since they are ready for both wholesale and retail quantities.

“Now the only problem is we don’t have buyers. We produce in larger quantities so both wholesalers and retailers can troop to Sibi for yam. The prices are more than moderate and we are ready to open to everyone’’.

They appealed to the Assembly and Government to establish a yam factory at Sibi under the One District One Factory initiative.
